IT departments are largely ignoring Vista. In June (18 months after Vista's launch), Forrester Research reported that just 8.8% of enterprise PCs worldwide were running Vista. Meanwhile, Microsoft appears to have put Windows 7 on an accelerated schedule that could see it released in 2010. That will provide IT departments with all the justification they need to simply skip Vista and wait to eventually standardize on Windows 7 as the next OS for business.

The Register reported on October 2 that Microsoft was going to extend again the date until which PC makers would be allowed to continue to offer Windows users "downgrade rights," enabling them to switch from Vista to XP on new machines. The Reg said Microsoft had moved the downgrade cut-off date from January 31, 2009 to July 31, 2009.

According to Devil Mountain Software Inc., which operates a community-based testing network, nearly 35% of the 3,000-plus PCs it examined had been downgraded from Vista to XP.

About 4 weeks ago, I was somehow suckered into updating SP2 to SP3.  I failed to read anything about it before the update and figured, "what the heck."  Two weeks later, I realized something was wrong when I tried to play WoW.  An error message came up saying that it couldn't find a usable video device.

I am very busy and just didn't have the time to really dig in and figure out what went wrong.  Today, I tried to open Google Earth.  It could not open using DirectX.  I figured it was time to fix since I had a little spare time.

I then tried to update / reinstall the ATI driver and it just wouldn't take.   So, now I had a complete loss of a video driver.  Well, I got sick of it all and rolled back before the update.

The video driver came back and I was able to play WoW and the ATI properties came back.   Unfortunatly, I had updated FireFox to version 3 sometime after the update so I had to reinstall FF3.  I also had to install most of my addons.  Not a big deal since it still had all of the addon settings and whatnot.

FireFox Rox! Windows sucks...especially SP3.  Don't install it unless you really thing you have to.

I have had other problems at work updating to it.

First of all let me say I am sorry for the lack of posting lately.  Though there is a reason for that.  I was waiting and waiting for my computer parts to finally come in the mail that way I can do a large post regrarding that.  The good news is that they actually came in yesterday afternoon as I was getting home from school.  The bad news is that things did not go as planned hooking everything up.

One good thing is that everything is working as it should right now, though I do find that I am in desperate need of a better graphics card as well as a SATA HDD or DVD-ROM.  My motherboard that I purchased only has one open area for IDE devices because lets face it IDE is getting older and slower and not many people use it.  Except for me who is too lazy to switch over.  I did also have some issues when trying to get the sound to work properly.  Amazingly enough even this cheap mobo I have supports high def audio which I am pretty surprised about.  The bad part was that Windows XP SP3 did not like high def audio and refused to let me install my drivers.

I will do a bigger post with pictures sometime this weekend so please bear with me ok?

Permohonan praperadilan SP3 Soedrajad didaftarkan MAKI ke Pengadilan Negeri (PN) Jakarta Selatan, kemarin, dengan nomor registrasi 17/pidprap/2008/PN Jaksel. Dalam berkas praperadilan, tertera dua alasan MAKI mempraperadilankan keputusan penghentian penyidikan oleh Kejakgung. Pertama, pemeriksaan (eksaminasi) terhadap perkara Soedrajad Djiwandono oleh bidang Pidana Khusus (Pidsus) hingga kini belum ada hasilnya. Kedua, MAKI menilai adanya diskriminasi perlakuan hukum ketika mantan gubernur BI Burhanuddin Abdullah menjadi terdakwa di Pengadilan Tindak Pidana Korupsi (Tipikor).

Menurut Boyamin, berdasarkan beban tanggung jawab, Soedrajad sudah seharusnya dikenakan beban tanggung jawab tertinggi terhadap kasus yang menimpa tiga mantan direktur BI. Tiga mantan direktur tersebut, yakni Hendro Budiyanto, Heru Supraptomo, dan Paul Sutopo, telah dipidana dalam kasus serupa. "Daripada menunggu hasil eksaminasi, dipraperadilankan saja," tambah Boyamin.

Jaksa Agung Muda Pidana Khusus (JAM Pidsus), Marwan Effendy, mempersilakan siapa saja yang ingin menguji SP3 Kejakgung lewat jalur praperadilan. Marwan, kemarin, juga memastikan, "Eksaminasi SP3 Soedrajad dilaksanakan oleh tim ahli dan terdapat unsur independen yang terlibat. Prof Indrianto Seno Adji juga ikut terlibat," kata Marwan.

Kejakgung mengeksami-nasi SP3 dua tersangka kasus BLBI terkait krisis ekonomi tahun 1997. Dua tersangka yang penyidikan kasusnya dihentikan saat itu adalah mantan gubernur Bank Indonesia (BI), Soedradjad Djiwandono, dan mantan deputi gubernur BI, Iwan R Prawiranata. Eksaminasi menyusul keterangan Ketua Yayasan Pengembangan Perbankan Indonesia (YPPI), Bariju Salam Hadi, di Pengadilan Tindak Pidana Korupsi (Tipikor), Rabu (6/8), yang mengatakan, adanya aliran dana BI yang diberikan ke Kejaksaan Agung (Kejakgung).

Menurut Bariju, uang sebesar Rp 13,5 miliar dicairkan untuk Kejakgung sebagai stakeholder pada 7 Juli 2003 untuk biaya diseminasi BLBI dan isu-isu BI. Dalam surat ketua Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan (BPK) ke ketua KPK, tertanggal 14 November 2006, terindikasi kuat aparat penegak hukum kecipratan uang puluhan miliar rupiah dari dana BI. Dalam surat tersebut, Ketua BPK Anwar Nasution menyebut total dana untuk bantuan hukum mantan pejabat BI yang menjadi tersangka kasus BLBI senilai Rp 96,25 miliar. Perinciannya, dari YPPI Rp 68,5 milar dan dari anggaran resmi BI Rp 27,75 miliar.

Dana tersebut diberikan kepada mantan gubernur BI, J Soedradjad Djiwandono, sebesar Rp 28,41 miliar; mantan deputi gubernur BI, Iwan R Prawiranata, sebesar Rp 13,5 miliar; mantan direktur BI, Heru Supraptomo, sebesar Rp 16,7 miliar; mantan direktur BI, Hendrobudianto, sebesar Rp 16,7 miliar; dan mantan direktur BI, Paul Sutopo, sebesar Rp 16,7 miliar. Selain itu, masih ada dana bantuan hukum gabungan untuk ketiga petinggi BI tersebut senilai Rp 4,09 miliar.

Berdasarkan perincian penggunaan dana bantuan hukum, dari total Rp 96,25 miliar, ternyata tidak seluruhnya dipergunakan untuk membayar pengacara. Sebab, dalam surat BPK dinyatakan bahwa total dana untuk pengacara hanya Rp 27,75 miliar. Sisanya, dana dari YPPI sebesar Rp 68,5 miliar itu, dalam surat tersebut, diduga diserahkan kepada oknum penegak hukum di Kejakgung melalui orang ketiga (perantara) untuk menghentikan proses hukum mantan gubernur, mantan direksi, dan mantan deputi gubernur BI. Seperti diketahui, akhirnya penyidikan kasus J Soedrajad Djiwandono dan Iwan R Prawiranata dihentikan lewat penerbitan SP3 oleh Kejakgung tahun 2003. dri

I've been running Windows XP SP3 on my home and work desktop since the end of May 2008, including my work laptop since the beginning of August. All 3 systems are very stable and have been so since the completion of the service pack installation but not without a few problems.

Desktop machine at work was installed by the IT guys before I joined and the did some sort of magic to raid the two hard drives without using a RAID controller. Basically forcing Windows Server raid on a Windows XP Pro OS. This was fine for the use of the machine while it was running SP2 the 6 months prior to installing SP3. After installing SP3 however the machine blue-screened almost immediately after the install completed and a reboot was required. No matter what trick I tried to fix it (and let me tell you I just about tried everything you could find through Google) nothing worked until I gave in and reformatted the boot drive and did a clean install. Straight after doing the clean OS install I did the SP3 install and since then things have been fine.

The work laptop was also a clean XP install with SP3 straight afterwards without any problems - I've been using the laptop for the last 6 weeks doing development without any problems. 

My home PC had recently been rebuilt since I upgraded most of the hardware so it had a clean OS but had been running various software, networking and development tools with SP2. I thought, well lets give it a try here too - worst case scenario was that I'd need to rebuild it again. So I installed SP3 and first thing that didn't work after the reboot was my internet connectivity. After a lot of digging and back-and-forth communication with my ISP tech support as well as Billion's tech support I managed to fix the problem (mind you not without installing and uninstalling SP3 three times before figuring out what it was).

Somehow, somwehere, my network drivers had gotten corrupted under SP2 - but strangely with SP2 they worked fine, which led me to believe that SP3 was the culprit. Eventually I uninstalled SP3 for the third time and decided to remove all networking components from the Device Manager and reboot the machine. Of course upon reboot it re-detected the hardware again and re-applied the drivers for the newly found networking components. After a quick check that everything was working, I reinstalled SP3 for the fourth time. This time after a reboot everything worked as it should have. And a little over 3 months later the desktop machine at home is still stable.

Desde que formatee por última vez mi ordenador, no cosneguía que la tarjeta gráfica se instalara como dios manda y me ocurrian cosas extrañas en los juegos 3D y en la visualización de las fuentes de texto en pantalla. Me he bajado los drivers más frikis que hay en la red para ATI que son los de OmegaDrivers (sois los mejores chicos, muchas gracias), pero ni siquiera con estos se resolvian todos los problemas.

Se me ocurrió que quizás era una cuestión del sistema operativo y pensé en actualizarlo. Cual fue mi sorpresa al instalar el SP3 para XP de Microsoft y encontrarme al reiniciar que TODOS LOS TEXTOS SE VISUALIZABAN CORRECTAMENTE¡¡¡¡, de verdad, si estáis experimentando problemas con las ATI, bajaos los drivers de Omega y luego instalar el SP3 de Xp, es lo mejor que me ha pasado en mucho tiempo. Tener cuidado con el sistema operativo que usáis, yo tengo la desantendida del TEU8, y no ha dado ningún problema, os recomiendo saber bien las claves del producto antes de instalar el servipack y si no estáis seguros, formatear el pc y bajaros el TodoEnUno 8 para aseguraros que instaláis la versión buena.

SUERTE A TODOS LOS QUE TENGÁIS ESTOS PROBLEMAS, SÉ QUE SOMOS MUCHOS.
