The Scholarship concert will be at the Long Beach City College Auditorium on the corner of Clark and Harvey Way.

Det engelska pianorockbandet Keane har genom två fantastiska album slagit sig hem bland många som Coldplays lillebror på rockscenen. Likheterna med Coldplay var många, likheterna med Queen var oändliga. Tack vare flera enastående hitsinglar från debutalbumet (This Is The Last Time, Somewhere Only We Know och Everybody's Changing) lyckades dock Keane bygga sig ett eget namn i musikvärlden. Ett lika lyckat andra album banade väg för en stor våg av förväntan inför det tredje, Perfect Symmetry. Nu är det dags.

Bandet hade i förväg meddelat att det nya albumet skulla vara annorlunda (säger inte alla band det?). Efter att ha lyssnat på förstaspåret Spiralling som fått god kritik i Storbritannien kunde jag inte annat än att nicka medhållande med ett rest ögonbryn. Detta var faktiskt min riktiga reaktion. Varför jag i min ensamhet valde att exponera denna "pose" kan jag inte riktigt förklara. Hursomhelst, de kommande spåren satte mig i helt rätt stämning och jag fann att det gamla goda Keane inte blivit ersatt av några nissar i spandex och jeansjacka. Nog har man experimenterat med olika instrument (bland annat banjo och såg) och tagit influenserna från åttio- och nittiotalet ett steg längre men kvaliteten i låtarna och låtskrivandet finns verkligen kvar och några av låtarna kommer garanterat att slå stort, kanske främst i Storbritannien. Chaplins röst håller som vanligt riktigt hög klass och låtarna drar en från lite upptempo, nästan manisk positivitet till vacker melankoli. I sin helhet är albumet mer upplyftande än föregångarna och mindre allvarligt, på gott och ont. Om jag får spekulera tror jag framförallt på Love Is The End som en potentiellt enorm radiohit.

Sämst på skivan: Jag måste nog gå emot trenden och säga Spiralling.

Betyget blir en stark 7/10 som lutar betydligt mer uppåt än nedåt.

Los británicos se presentarán en el club Vélez Sarsfield el 21 de Noviembre.

La legendaria banda de glam rock vuelve otra vez a nuestro país, esta vez (obviamente) sin Freddy Mercury. Lo reemplaza como voz principal Paul Rodgers, el cantante británico de Free y Bad Company.

Sólo unos pocos días atrás se produjo el lanzamiento del primer disco de Queen + Paul Rodgers, The Cosmos Rock, luego de trece años de inactividad en estudio del grupo.

La gira The Cosmos Rock Tour, que comenzó el 16 de septiembre en Moscú, Rusia, llegará a la Argentina el 21 de Noviembre de 2008 al estadio de Vélez Sarsfield. Brian May declaró que es probable que toquen un bloque completo de los infaltables clásicos de la banda, complementados con casi todo el material nuevo de The Cosmos Rock.

Actualmente, ya sin Freddy y sin John Deacon (quien se retiró de la música en el año 1997), Queen está conformado por: Brian May (guitarra y voces), Roger Taylor (batería y voces), Paul Rodgers (voces y guitarra), Spike Edney (teclados, coro), Jamie Moses (segunda guitarra, coros), Danny Miranda (bajo, guitarra acústica, coros).

Hittade något superinressant på resumé som jag har lite svårt att svälja i dessa försvarsbantningstider. Det är om Bi Puranen och hennes make Peter Welander som arbetar på ekot.

Men det äkta paret i Bikupans styrelse är dessutom frikostig med pensioner till sig själva: i fjol betalade företag 3,2 miljoner i pensionskostnader, år 2006 över 3,5 miljoner. Varken Bi Puranen eller Peter Welander redovisar någon skattepliktig förmögenhet.

Jag kan inte låta bli och vara elak,  men i min sinnesvärld blir hon "Bi" drottningen med de gröna drönarna.

Hur kan Försvarmakten och HKV ens komma på idén att bekosta en extern konsult miljoner i rådande spartider och då politiker skär i FM anslaget. Är det här vad som kallas bi-syssla eller?

Det blir lite av en "kommunikativ paradox" de har hyvlat fram vad gäller värdegrundsarbete och jag tror inte att det här tilltalar en del "hearts and minds" här hemma. I varje fall inte de som varit ute och "yxat" med sina fredskamrater. 

ÖB Håkan Syrén brusade  fram en informationsoperation som tydligt  visade hur man använder en bila. Det för att på ett pedagogiskt sätt demonstrera för hur en autentisk ledare hyvlar och använder kap för att få ekonomin att gå ihop inom försvaret.

 Värderingar som styrmedel.. jo jag tackar jag det här ska jag fundera på i natt..

No suelo ir diciendo por ahí la música que me gusta porque cada cual tiene la que le ha tocao, pero en fin, hoy sus voy a decir una cosa: el lunes que viene voy a ver a Que. Y os lo digo porque es que Que no es un grupo cualquiera para mí. Vereis...

... a la edad de 12 años iba a clase de inglés de verano, y un día nos pusieron "Who wants to live forever" y "We will rock you" para probar nuestra destreza auditiva sacando algunas palabrejas de las susodichas canciones. Total que yo, que ya empezaba a pubertear y estaba ávido de nuevas experiencias musicales tras cuatro años escuchando exclusivcamente Europe y Michael Jackson (y éste de rebote), me dió el intrínsiculis, y le pedí a mi amigo Antonio, que ya era fan por entonces, que me grabase el disco que él tenía, que era el de "The Works". Comprobé tristemente que no salían ninguna de las canciones que conocía, a lo cual mi amigo Antonio alegó que ya, que sólo salían nueve, y que nunca en su vida había visto un disco tan corto, y que vaya. Pero no obstante le cogí gran afición, y la cinta resultante de grabarme ese disco dió vueltas y vueltas durante unos cuantos meses en el walkman que un par de años antes me había regalado mi tía Rosalía. Y asín poco a poco, entre mi amigo Antonio y yo, tras muchos ahorros y privaciones, y con la inestimable ayuda de su primo, que tambien era fan, algún otro amiguete que se fue sumando, y Papá Noel y los Reyes Magos, fuimos haciéndonos poco a poco con toda la colección.

Eran tiempos pre-internetarios, oigan.

Y desde entonces y hasta ahora, con muy buen ojo y a pesar de las muchas etapas musicales en las que me he visto envuelto, Queen ha sido mi grupo favorito, y con respecto a él se han medido todas las demás bandas que he ido conociendo.

Y ya sé que sin Freddie no es lo mismo, y que el tal Paul tiene bien poca de su sutil dulzura femenina, y que además tampoco toca ya John, y que por eso deberían llamarse "Que" y no "Queen", pero es que Roger y Brian son tan majicos que ya por eso sólo voy. Y luego me imagino haciendo las dos-palmadas/puños-fuera de "Radio Ga Ga" junto con otros tantos miles de personas y me da algo, y luego pienso en que tal vez haya un impromptu "Brighton Rock"ero de Brian, que parecen cosa fina, y que además sacará su guitarra legendaria a relucir, y la verdad es que leñe, total por el valor de un año de mi batido de soja con chocolate semanal, merece la pena, no?

Cómo me lo flipo.

Pena que eles só vão tocar em São Paulo.

What a weird and strangely exciting video.

I've been listening to Eckhart Tolle's a New Earth, and chapter six is called "Breaking Free" and of course, I immediately thought of my favorite cross-dressing rock band.

Do you reckon Freddie was talking about his pain body?

"What does it feel like to run 42km? Hmm, we don't know - yet. But we are about to find out." This is what I thought on Tuesday night when I lay awake in my bed... yea, let's just try to run 20km in the morning, then join the circuits session in the evening and then attempt another 20km after that. Uhm... did it work? Well, the fact that this post has been posted is proof that we are still alive - however, the important question is... did we make it and how do we feel now?

So... did we make it? Yes, in fact we did. Well, nearly. Everything went according to plan until after the circuits session. The morning run went smoothly as always, even though the British winter is starting to be frosty. We felt pretty energised after circuits and were looking forward to the night run, but soon after the first 7km the pain started kicking in. The fact that we already did 20km in the morning and circuits just before our evening run started to emerge into our bodies. ...and it didn't help that we got lost and didn't find the lovely bridge we wanted to run on - so it was main streets and car noise for us for most of the way. All these factors unfortunately added up and we were only able to make 16km in the end. Well, I guess it's alright for a start - no, its frigging awesome.

OK, how do we feel now? Well, Paulo is now in a wheel chair, unable to type... so you can imagine his state... :) - I guess I have to push him to University tomorrow. I was also pretty tired after the run, but nothing an ice bath can't cure. LOL, no seriously - I'm a bit tired.

I guess it's been a hard day - but Team Big-O is unstoppable.

Don't stop us now.

CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE............................

well, i'm messing around the net with some pandora. completed 1/5th of my research paper due tomorrow funn. if i get like 3/5th done before lacrosse practice i'll go today, i think thats manageable. I'm just a little worried about citation though my prof. seems to be a stickler about it...

My laptop was delivered from HP via DHL today, although they forgot to replace my broken a/c adapter so i still cant power it on.... figures lol.

Now, Canada is on the process of election and the voting day is October 14th. The usual term of office for the MP is four years but they did election two years ago. Why do they it again now?

Because the Queen dissolved the parliament.

When I studied the history of England, I found that the kings dissolved the parliament many times - this is one of the Queen or King's right. Like a president fire a minister and hire different guy as a new minister, Queen can dissolve the parliament and fire the Prime Minister, and compose another parliament.

Frankly speaking, not  the Queen but the Governor General, the Queen's representative dissolved it.

Then why did the Governor General dissolve the parliament?

The current parliament of Canada and government is of Conservative which is led by Stephen Harper who is the Prime Minister now, but they are minority government. And the liberals have quite many seats in the house and breaks every single action of the government.

So the Prime Minister visited the Governor General and said he could not continue in that way. And the Governor General dissolved the parliament right away.

Now there are four major parties - Conservative trying to be born again as a majority government, liberals trying to get the power, and NDP (New Democratic Party), and Green Party.

캐나다의 국회는 군주(sovereign), 귀족의회(senate), 그리고 평민의회(house of commons)로 나뉘어져 있는데 (미국은 신분이 없는 곳이라 상원과 하원이라고 하는데, 캐나다는 신분이 있는 곳이라 이렇게 썼음) 귀족의회는 여왕이 파견한 총독이 수상의 추천을 받아 임명하는 임명직으로 105명이 있고, 평민의회는 일반적인 선출직이다. 군주는 당연히 영국 여왕으로 총독이 대리한다.

지금, 캐나다는 한참 선거 운동중이고 선거일은 10월 14일이다. 국회의원의 임기는 보통 4년인데, 2년 전에 선거를 했는데 왜 또 선거를 할까?

그 이유는 여왕이 국회를 해산했기 때문이다.

영국 역사를 공부해 보면 국왕이 국회를 해산한 적이 종종 있다. 국왕의 권한 중의 하나가 맘에 안드는 국회 해산하는 거다. 마치 대통령이 맘에 안드는 장관 경질하고 새로운 장관 뽑듯이, 국왕은 맘에 안드는 수상과 국회를 싹 해산할 수 있다.

정확히 말하면 여왕이 캐나다에 없고 대신 총독을 보냈기 때문에 총독이 국회를 해산했다.

그럼 총독은 왜 국회를 해산했을까?

현재 캐나다 정부는 보수당(Conservative Party)이 잡고 있으며 보수당수인 스티븐 하퍼가 수상을 하고 있는데, 국회의 다수를 차지하지 못한 소수 정부인데, 자유당(Liberal Party)이 꽤 큰 의석을 차지해서 사사건건 제동을 걸고 있다. 마치 노무현 정부때 딴나라당이 했던 것처럼.

그래서 수상이 총독에게 찾아가 못해먹겠다고 말을 했고, 총독은 그럼 하지 말라며 정부(국회)를 해산했다. 그래서 지금 선거를 갑자기 하게 된 것이다.

당연하지만, 보수당은 다수 정부가 되기 위해 노력하고, 자유당은 정권을 잡기 위해 노력하고 있다. 이 두 당 말고는 신민당(NDP - New Democratic Party)과 녹색당(Green Party)가 있다.
