This image was taken at the Summit Restaurant which is located on the 47th floor of the Harry Seidler designed Australia Square building in Sydney. The Summit restaurant kindly allowed us to spend some time up there to document how it looks today. It underwent refurbishment in 1999 and the modernist history was considered highly amongst the brief, including the inclusion of these white Eero Saarinen tulip chairs.

The Museum photographers revisited city sites that were influential in the modernist period and documented them on how they look and how they are being used in a contemporary way. This was taken to coincide with the new exhibition on modernism in Australia.

Alright, still sick. I've become a bit obsessed with the Rubber Plant - it is in my living room - where I've been held hostage by a fierce and ugly cold for the last five days. Anyway, everytime I look at this plant it has something clever to offer. Enjoy.

Will Mr Kevin Eat it???

Today I starred in 2 videos at church. One is for Sunday Morning worship (Big Church) as an illustration for Brother Bill’s sermon, and another one for the launch of our Children’s Worship Service (Children’s Church). They were both ridiculous. Ridiculous.

The one for Brother Bill was a pocket-stuffing, oreo-eating, vignette of gluttoneous tomfoolery meant to showcase over-indulgence. And my dancing skills.

The one for Children’s Worship Service was nothing more than an excuse to make me eat the MOST disgusting things in the world, which never fails to make the kids laugh. (and me throw up!)

It ended up being pretty funny but in the process I ate the worst of the worst. It started out okay, but it got bad fast… I ate a candy bar (yum), pizza… a LOT of pizza (yum, but too much), Spam (not yum), a can of spinach (nowhere near yum), and pickled pigs feet… PICKLED PIGS FEET PEOPLE!!!! (the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten bar none.)

The only way I can describe the taste of pickled pigs feet to you if you have not had them is that it tastes like the taste in your mouth after you have thrown up. Seriously. And then when you throw up the pickled pigs feet… which you most certainly will… the taste of that throwup taste will be intensified 10 fold. 20 fold. It is the WORST!

When Crash finishes editing it, I’ll put it on youtube and allow you to share in the “glory” that is the Launch Video for Children’s Worship Service.

Today's photo was taken a few years ago on Robson Street in Vancouver.
Ever since then I've been a fan of Pocky. Pocky in every flavour imaginable!

I've been having fun with Flickr, posting these weird photos I take and then sticking them on my blog. At least I'm having fun. Hoping that others too will get some enjoyment out of the photos.

Also, I must post about what is making me laugh a lot these days: Spaghetti Cat! Look at the expression on his face, sitting there in that chair with a pile of spaghetti!!!! I am quite a fan of Michael K's site dlisted.com. He's so funny. There are blasts from the past that and things he posts about that I laugh about hardcore!!! I hope that you too can enjoy the magic of Spaghetti Cat!

I'm still sick - what a bummer. I hate being ill. It's really no fun; after you've layed in bed for one whole day your ass starts to hurt along with all the other parts that hurt due to the illness, there's nothing good on TV, you can't really sleep anymore and all you really want to do is something fun. I can't stop coughing and my throat still feels a bit like I swallowed a flaming bag of broken glass. (No good)

Anyway, I managed to get outside to my garden to see if there are any new flowers. I found a bunch of ripe red and yellow peppers, some new morning glories and several hibiscus blossoms. All in all I ended up back on my couch looking at my rubber plant and its beautiful glow. So, here's another picture of my rubber plant, the one that started this whole project. This time the image is much more about the whole composition than it is about the actual plant. It's really about the light.

I'm super sick with some kind of nasty cold so I've been stuck inside all day. It's been raining for about 24 hours straight so when I finally got out of the house to pick up some soup and Popsicles I snapped a few photos of traffic and abstract lights in the pouring rain.

Every now and again you get to meet someone who just has something special about him. Mr Tutu was one of those for me.

This picture came to mind when I read a quote from him recently about the upcoming national braai day on September 24th. What should the vegetarians do on national braai day he was asked, "stand and watch."

I chuckled. Somebody else's suggestion was that they eat mielies. I chuckled a more. Don't get me wrong, I love mielies on the braai, its just that its great PC dialogue in action.

As a followup to the last post, I can proudly say I'll be supporting national braai day; just have one delicious, perfectly cooked lamb tjoppie, not five.

This image is a reproduction of a glass plate negative from the Clyde Engineering photographic collection. We have just added our first selection of 50 images to the Commons project on Flickr where we also have images from the Tyrrell photographic collection. The Commons project is about showing publicly held photographic collections to the online Flickr community and allowing members to add tags, comments and participate in adding knowledge to these collections so they become even richer.

We acquired the Clyde collection in December 1987 after Clyde Engineering was relocating offices. We have a portion of the collection that includes 1350 glass plate negatives and 4000 tri-acetate negatives showing both the workers and the machinery they manufactured. This image, taken in 1941, shows the works yard with five Tiger Moth aircraft made by DeHavilland, Australia being uploaded at the Clyde works for repairs. We will be loading more images from this collection along with our Tyrrell photographs each week.

Apparently, this is "Sir Line Backer". I found this graffiti poster on Ashland Avenue just a little farther South of Chicago Ave. than the previous post. I'm not sure what the process is for drawing or printing the images and gluing them up on buildings around the city but I'd like to learn more. Perhaps I'll start branding my neighborhood with some cool images.

This image was taken using an underwater housing for a digital SLR similar to this one from Wetpixel. It was photographed at Enfield pool, Sydney that was originally designed by the architects Rudder and Grout in 1933. This image was taken for the photographic immersive that is featured in the new exhibition on modernism in Australia. The immersive is an exploration of swimming pools, the culture and how it has changed from being places of fun to almost places solely about fitness.
