I've recently did a write up on "Staying Creative By Watching Cassette Playa", it's available on THC. This is another video by Cassette Playa, and a couple of weeks ago Nike did 23 interviews on London's creative community and guess what, Carri Mundane of Cassette Playa was in it, it's very interesting and you definitely need to watch it.

Dunk XXIII Be True...focusing on the iconic Nike Dunk, self expression and 23 members on London's creative community.

CARRI MUNDANE

The creative genius behind Cassette Playa - both her enigmatic alter ego and an epic brand. Having transcended the new rave revolution, Cassette Playas signature clash of tribal colour can now be seen in stores all over the world.

JAMES LAVELLE

Seminal DJ and force behind Mo' Wax Records, Lavelle was one of the first creatives to join the cultural dots between London, Tokyo and New York through his passion for music, street fashion and art. Inspired by hip hops cut'n'paste aesthetic he pioneered a DIY culture which provides the template and essential ingredients for much of what the street style scene accepts as the norm today. Now, with his focus fixed on UNKLE, Lavelle's style legacy includes the then unprecedented Nike shoe collaboration the DUNKLE.

PETE YAK

DJ, music journalist and the man at the helm of sneaker store Gloria's, one of East London's hottest destination points -- Pete has been a certified shoe fiend since his childhood days in Hackney, and even admits to going to sleep with box-fresh sneakers beside his pillow so that when he woke up, they'd be the first things he'd see.

TRAPSTAR

Trapstar one of the most exciting clothing and concept labels to arrive on the street scene in some time. Trapstar is a creative collective with a unique focus. Their brand philosophy involves concealing their identities from the public and 'invasions' -- where, along with a crew of DJs, party people and affiliates they take over a store and launch their attack -- limited edition product in cities far, far away....

DORAN

Lead man in the band Ghost Frequency, Doran's is an elegant solution to a number of self made contradictions; urban yet classic, reserved yet conspicuous, he describes his style as -- a kid in the 80's trying to dress like a kid from the 50's.

SHANE AND OLLIE

Hailing from a part of East London so remote others might call it a village, Ollie and Shane are the new kids on the block. At 17 and 18 respectively they have they're own clothing brand -- Busy Purple - born with a mission to instil youthful exuberance into the world of street fashion.

AMAZING GRACE

London born Grace Ladoja is a film maker and self confessed sneaker fiend. Combining her two passions she is currently working on a documentary project about directional youth cultures and global brands.

NEHJAT

With his rep as a dynamic style leader and sneaker-head, Nehjat has a cream of the crop collection of over 200 pairs of sneakers. Originally from Leeds he used to visit London at a teenager to buy rare and exclusive kicks. He has now lived in London for six years.

MUBI AND KISH

Unknown/Unavailable

FATS SHARIFF AND SON CHE

Photographer Fats Shariff's website Fatsarazzi is an insider's view of London's street culture scene. With his leading-edge consultancy, What When & Now, he also gives brands the heads up on what's happening trend-wise. Understandably his son Che is already known as a bit of a trendsetter in his own right at school.

CHARLIE CROCKETT

A Ladbroke Grove lad, Charlie Crockett is an artist and the man behind creative collective Art In Transit (A'in'T). Taking street inspired art to another level, he is launching a clothing line under the same name this summer.

JOEY CRAK AND SNOWY

Joey and Snowy have been friends ever since they moved to London a few years ago. Both are now top notch members of the Nike SB team, and sworn fans of the original Nike Dunk. To some people London is a daunting, over populated urban landscape, to Snowy and Joey it's a colourful, ever changing skate park waiting to be explored.

TEMPA T

Originally from the mammoth Slew Dem grime crew, Tempa T's name really comes to life when he's on the mic -- a fierce, rapid fire delivery witnessed on anthem-like tracks such as Are You On Dis Ting? and Bax Dem. You have been warned.

AFRIKAN BOY

Currently studying at Brunel University, Afrikan Boy is bringing something new to the London grime scene. As evidenced by his guest appearance on MIA's LP Kala and with tracks like One Day I Went To Lidl, he has introduced his own brand of Afro Grime to the underground scene. Watch out for that Afrikan swagger.

GINA

Gina is one of London's cool chicks, despite the fact that she lives in Surrey. A makeup artist and stylist's assistant Gina recently assisted the legendary Cassette Playa and is a Dunk lover through and through.

DYLAN HUGHES

Dylan hails from Ireland. Since coming to London to study footwear design he's become known as a man about town -- with his signature plaid shirt, skinny jeans and hi-tops. Having been involved in a number of retail projects -- most recently with hip sneaker store Foot Patrol -- Dylan, who plays in a number of bands, enjoys a good party and freely admits -- 'I like to make noise'.

FLOSS DAILY

Floss Daily is one of a number of alter egos for Selom Woode - an artist, writer and DJ. As a founding member of the legendary DJ crew Teens of Thailand, he introduced the counter-generic party vibe into the London club scene which quickly became synonymous with new Shoreditch and is now the accepted DJing style of our time.

HITOMI AND IVY

Hitomi is a London based fashion and graphics designer for uber hip brand GoodEnough. A creative conduit between London and Tokyo, she is also responsible for producing some of the most sought after items of clothing and design around. Her daughter Ivy is way beyond cool.

STEVE BRYDEN

London born, fixed wheel obsessed Steve is an internationally recognised one man sneakerpedia and currently consults for the Gimme 5 clothing empire among others.

DAISUKE SAKAGUCHI

Daisuke is a jewellery designer who takes his influences from a number of least likely sources -- graffiti, the 90's two step scene and architecture to name a few. While his work sells in such select boutique stores as Dover Street Market, you can also see it worn by the likes of Estelle, Romeo and Brooklyn Beckham and Kelis.

KESH AND ZEZI

Friends since 2003, Zezi and Kesh aka The Coconut Twins will forever be associated with championing colour and irreverence in the London club scene and beyond. Now a successful fashion designer (she originally came to London to study fashion, but got kicked out of college for fighting!) Kesh recently staged her debut catwalk show at London Fashion Week. Following in her family's footsteps, Zezi can now be seen on TV as a presenter on T4's Freshly Squeezed. All in living colour.

JME

JME is one of the grime scenes most articulate and insightful MCs and producers. With monumental tracks like Food, Deadout and Serious, JME manages to defy many of the clichés levelled at the London based scene -- a skate boarding, BMX riding, urban poet with a world view.

Reggie Yates

From pirate station Freak FM to Radio 1's National Chart Show, Reggie has managed to maintain his own unique style and presence. At home, he has a whole room dedicated to sneakers and a collection of in the region of 450 pairs -- and rising.

"End Titles – Stories for Film" is a collection of eclectic recordings from UNKLE and various collaborators that were inspired by the moving image in the last two years since "War Stories" was recorded.. It will be released on August 4th on Surrender All – the all encompassing label/studio/music company co-founded by James Lavelle. The current UNKLE line up comprises of James Lavelle and Pablo Clements.

This pioneering act are never prepared to stagnate or run out of fresh ideas about musical styles and collaborations, and so have teamed up with some of today’s most exciting and cutting edge acts within this album, including Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Black Mountain, Gavin Clark, Joel Cadbury (South) James Petralli from White Denim, Chris Goss (Masters of Reality, Queen of the Stone Age) , Dave Bateman, James Griffith (from UNKLE’s touring band), and Aidan Lavelle

As well as bands and artists, UNKLE have always chosen to work with some of the most directional and avant garde film makers in recent years, and have become known for their inspired marriage of audio and visuals. From their cult music videos, like the Jonathan Glazer-directed video for ‘Rabbit in Your Headlights’, to their mesmerising visuals at live shows, Lavelle and co. are masters of using the two media together to dramatic effect.

Highlights on this new release include ‘Heaven’ and ‘Blade in the Back’ which features on Spike Jonze’ skate video ‘Fully Flared’, as well as being the opening and closing title tracks from ‘Odyssey in Rome’, the Alex Grazioli documentary about celebrated director Abel Ferrera, for which UNKLE provided the entire soundtrack. The album also covers collaborations with Warren du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones who they worked with on the artwork for ‘War Stories’. Other tracks are collaborations with Philip Sheppard who recently scored the movie ‘In The Shadow of the Moon’, as well as pieces of music created in their Surrender All studio, just by James and Pablo themselves.

Compiling this collection has been a liberating experience for Lavelle; ‘’it covers a much wider range of influences than an album, like “War Stories”, which has a particular focus. There is room for everything in this kind of collection, from classical all the way to beat-driven instrumentals and electronic rock.’’

To celebrate their return, UNKLE will take this album on the road for an extensive word tour later this year, which will include a headline slot in the dance tent at Glastonbury, as well as a one off spectacular Somerset House show on 12th July. In addition to a set packed with classic UNKLE songs, fans can expect a special, upfront live taste of brand new material taken from the forthcoming studio album, out in 2009.

Dates will run as follows:

June 21st Rock a Field Luxembourg, Luxembourg
June 28th Ejekt Festival Athens, Greece
June 29th Glastonbury Festival
July 2nd Quart Festival Kristiansands, Norway
July 4th B'est Fest Bucharest, Romania
July 11th Oxegen Festival Naas, Ireland
July 12th Somerset House London
July 18th Pahoda Festival Bratislava, Slovakia
August 2nd Audioriver, Poland
August 3rd Loch Lomond, Scotland

Lavelle concludes: “A lot of the music we’re making ends up sitting on the shelf, neither properly released nor heard. A waste, really, we thought. So this album is our attempt to alleviate our musical frustrations whilst hoping that it will find a wider audience… It’s not a new album in the usual sense, but new music that has been inspired by the moving image.”

1.these days (petter) vs. what are you to me (unkle)/sasha.

[audio http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/25/1110572/turing%20machine%20-%2007%20-%20rock.%20paper.%20rock..mp3]

Turing Machine - Rock.Paper.Rock

Now I know, Mr. Lavelle, you're going to love this!

Abia astept urmatorul album UNKLE!

Studio Martin presents NYE Party with James Lavelle / Livio / Internullo / Pagal

Welcome in 2008 with James Lavelle and a cocktail in your hand at Studio Martin!

Line up: James Lavelle / Livio / Internullo / Pagal
Pret bilete: 40 ron in avans / 70 ron la locatie
Preturile biletelor includ un long drink

In 2001, Lee Burridge gave us his installment of Global Underground: NuBreed, a compilation so far ahead of its time it either confused us to the point of despair, or it managed to slip by, largely undetected. Years later however, his sound is exonerated as Balance 012 catapults us headfirst into the sound waves of the future.

Amidst this latest house music interpretation, Burridge grounds a plethora of ambient sounds with haunting riffs that shift like liquid between pulsating and undulating rhythmic bliss. We shouldn't be surprised. After all, Burridge thrives on diversity.

Dissatisfied, the DJ broke out of rural England in 1991 and made for Hong Kong, where he saturated himself in the ever-growing progressive underground house scene he found there. Over the next decade, he rose to the rank of "international DJ" with projects like 24:7 and Global Underground, his experimental nature keeping him at top mast while other high-billed DJs unwarily headed for the plank. His lates triumph, the criticially acclaimed Lost and Found EP, was used by James Lavelle and Cass, among others. Today Burridge continues to diversify, as is reflected in the latest Balance installment.

CD01 takes us through the stages of seduction, love, and rejection, subtly fusing a confident, post-funk minimalism; it boasts nostalgic tracks like the delicious Tristesse by Kollektive Turmstrasse, paints a sleek and sexy backdrop with Ferrer and Sydenham, Inc.'s The Back Door and Hug's The Angry Ghost, and sends us on a dark and exotic journey through Steppenwolf by H.O.S.H.

CD03, although not quite the more familiar brand of raunchiness of say, Sander Kleinenberg, delivers more of a raw, unfiltered sound. Antioxidation fuses computers and technology in a frantic assembly-line operatic, while Extrawelt Tool's remix of H'man's 51 Poland Street lifts us into outer space for that moonwalk we've always fantasized about. The seemingly polar opposite sets settle on a largely flat-lining compromise that is CD02. The most experimental by far, the second set is carried by heavy hitters like Babyford and Mark Broom's Bubblebath, and Broke's Over That.

Long story short, not only has Burridge effectively handpicked these tracks to pleasantly mess with our heads, he's also put together one hell of an intro for house music's reinvention. The Lee Burridge Balance 012 International Tour continues through the end of this year.
