I’ve recently discovered an entire world I did not know existed: the world of pornographic awards. We all know about the Oscars, the Grammys, and of course the prestigious Real World Awards, but very few of us are privy to the absurd amount of awards that are given out to pornographic movies every year.

The most famous of the pornographic awards given out are the Adult Video News (AVN) awards. Ever since 1984, the AVN has been giving out tons of fucking awards, in some categories that strike even an avid porno watcher like myself as odd. They give out awards for “Best Supporting Actor.” What the fuck does a supporting actor do in a porno? I assume that they’re a part of a three-way, but then the question becomes, how do they decide which guy is the lead actor and who is supporting? Do they just judge based on who cums first?

They give out awards for “Best Director!” They give out awards for “Best Cinematography!” Do you have any idea how many porno films come out every year? There are literally tens of billions of movies made every week. How can they possibly say definitively that one flick has the best cinematography? Do they actually watch every porn movie that comes out? How does one go about getting that job?

The AVN awards may be on the top of the pornographic awards world, but they are certainly not the only game in town. For the hipster porno fan, there is the X-Rated Critics Organization (XRCO).

The XRCO awards give themselves an air of authority by including “critics” in the name of their award. These people give out awards in more than forty categories including “Superslut,” “Orgasmic Analist,” “Unsung Swordsman,” and the much coveted “Best Epic.” I think “The Odyssey…of Anus Eating Chicks With Penises” took that last award this year.

As amusing as it is to imagine hearing the words “and the Best Video of the Year award goes to…Buttman In The Crack” spoken from behind a podium, something else really intrigues me about the XRCO Awards: the award for Worst Movie.

Looking over the recipients of this award leads me to one conclusion: no one likes geriatric porn. They almost always give the award to a movie that is clearly about banging old women. “Gum-Me-Bare,” “87 And Still Bangin’,” “Fossil Fuckers,” and “You’re Never Too Old To Gangbang” have all taken home the award in the last few years.

I find something very intriguing about the idea of some porn movie actually being the worst porn of the year, though I could never watch porn featuring the elderly. There are a few titles on the list that have got me really curious and I’ve got a good mind to search them out. The first one, Frankenpenis, I probably won’t look for. I am slightly intrigued, but it seems a little too “on the nose,” so to speak.

However, in 2000, the Worst Movie of the Year award went to a little film called “Watch Me Camp Bitch!” Watch Me Camp Bitch! What a title. The mind reels at what this film could possibly be about. I assume that there’s some camping involved, but the title isn’t “Come Camping With Me Bitch,” it’s “Watch Me Camp Bitch.” Is the whole film a girl watching a guy set up his tent, make a little campfire, then make smores? If so, what the fuck is pornographic about that?

In the past, I’ve limited my pornographic purchases to incestuous porn from the seventies (the Taboo series, China Sisters) and movies about clowns (Clown Fuckers), but I think I’m going to have to make an exception for “Watch Me Camp Bitch.” Best case scenario, I’ll enjoy a hilarious porno and solve the riddle of the movie’s title. Worst case scenario, it won’t be funny, but I’ll still learn how to install a tarp. I’d call that win-win.

Posted: 10/04/2008

PANORAMA CITY, Calif. – It was a rare thing in porn: A day of true names.

But perhaps that was only fitting, since the gathering was a memorial to a man who most in the industry knew by his true name – Ron Sullivan – but who most of the outside world knew only as acclaimed director Henri Pachard.

But nearly 150 people, more than half from the adult industry, came to the SGI Community Center, a Buddhist enclave, at 2 o'clock this afternoon to honor a man who had touched their lives and made a lasting impression, most through their work with him, but many on a personal level as well, including one who had known Sullivan for upwards of 40 years.

So when a severely laryngitic Herschel Savage took the podium to hoarsely begin his remembrance of Sullivan, he did so using his real name – which, of course, won't be revealed here.

"Buddhism is a philosophy [where] all people have the potential to attain enlightenment, or Buddhahood," Savage announced, noting that Ron and his wife Deloras had embraced the religion several years ago. "So by coming here and offering prayers for Ron, we embrace his life from now to the future."

What followed was a traditional Nichiren Buddhist ceremony, including chanting of "Nam myoho renge kyo," the burning of incense, and the ringing of the temple bell.

Several speakers embraced the idea that Sullivan had passed to a higher plane of existence. Deloras Sullivan said she believed her husband was now "free of his body; he's not suffering, he's not hurting; he's enjoying where he's at."

Retired performer and longtime friend Bionca Seven recalled how her late husband Bruce Seven shared the same birthday as Ron; the directors used to celebrate the occasion together. Bionca said she and Deloras had tried to comfort Ron during his illness by giving him foot massages "to bring as much pleasure as we possibly could to him in those last few days... But now he is in a better place. He is very powerful with his energy there, and I truly believe that coming from the place he is now, he will still continue being with Deloras and give her strength."

But it was Sullivan's longtime friend Randy Spears – "I've known him as long as the earth has been cooling" – who suggested, "If we could hear his voice right now, I know Ron and he would say this: 'Ha-HA! What are you crying about? You should see this place! I feel sorry for you!'"

In all, more than 20 of Ron's friends and relatives spoke at the two-hour service. Among the speakers were the director's son Jason, his sister Sheila, and longtime collaborators Raven Touchstone and Paul Thomas (who proclaimed, "I was Ron's penis long before Randy Spears knew him.") Other speakers included performers TT Boy, Sharon Mitchell, Nina Hartley, Skye Blue, Joey Silvera and Guy DiSilva, directors Ernest Greene and Fred Lincoln, and "script-girl" Jane Waters, who recalled meeting Ron in 1965 in Williamsburg, Va., when they'd been hired to make a "huge, 20-year epic story about an indentured servant."

Also in attendance: Veronica Hart (who brought remembrances also from Gloria Leonard, Veronica Vera and Candida Royalle), Jerry Tanner and wife Helen, David Christopher, Christian Mann, David Aaron Clark, Jack Remy, Bud Lee, Roy Karch, Wesley Emerson, Jake Jacobs, Gino Colbert, Rob Spallone, Ben Fisher, Wit Maverick, Shylar Cobi, Ron Miller, Debi Diamond, Shanna McCullough, Aiden Starr, Phyllisha Anne, Kyle Stone, Dirty Harry, Ben English, Harry Weiss, AVN's Dan Miller, and several other familiar faces. Even the much-missed Eric Edwards attended briefly.

The service was a fitting farewell to a man who helped make the adult industry what it is today.

Tá, demorou um pocuo mais do que eu imaginava. Muitos trabalhos.

As you may already know, I own Vudu and absolutely love it. However I have kept a close eye on the c

As you may already know, I own Vudu and absolutely love it. However I have kept a close eye on the competition with products like Roku, Apple Tv, and now LG entering the market.

The LG Netflix box looks to be front runner going forward with the large Netflix install base and its dual purpose as digital media streamer and Blu Ray player.

As the competition backs the smaller Vudu into a corner, the company made imo a very smart move by announcing the launch of an adult entertainment channel.

In the back of my mind, I have been wondering which hardware provider would go this route first. It was only a matter of time. With adult entertainment (PC way to say porn), being able to be purchased in hotel rooms, DirectTV, and digital cable boxes, there was a very set precedent to go this route.

Let's be honest, porn is BIG business and its 2008. The few people who are still offended by something like this weren't going to buy a Vudu anyways. You can't say that on demand digital downloading and streaming of telelvision and movies is a great technology, but one that cannot be utilized to deliver adult entertainment. If consumers want it (trust me they do), and the partental controls are in place its a smart move to be a first mover into this space.

With Vudu getting distribution at Best Buys in addition to this new development, I think Vudu has caught a second wind going into their second holiday season. I'll even bet that 25% of sales going forward in 2008 will be tied to this development as Vudu now is enabled to be a jukebox of porn.

Customers Use Their Butts to Defend an Indiana Lion's Den From Protesters
The Lion’s Den c

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="250" caption="Customers Use Their Butts to Defend an Indiana Lion's Den From Protesters"][/caption]

The Lion's Den chain has undergone an impressive image change lately. I don't know about your local store, but the one near my hometown is lovely and even features clean and friendly restrooms. When I lived in Louisville, the local Lion's Den was one of 2 stores where I could enter knowing with full confidence that the staff would be respectful and make sure that my fellow customers also treated me appropriately.

Unfortunately, a Lion's Den in Indiana has come under attack by anti-porn protesters, who are not only violating local ordinances in their protest, but also harassing customers and employees by means such as taking their pictures and posting them on the internet.

Now, I will come right out and say that I am not a fan of the push for increasingly edgy porn that has led to a flood of violent and painful portrayals of sex between male/female actors, as well as male/male actors. I'm also aware that watching violent porn has been shown in some research to increase a desire to engage in violent sex. Yes, we're monkeys with a drive to impersonate what we see from the day we're born. Does that make all porn, the porn industry, and all sex toys something to wage a war against? Does it mean that porn is nothing but horrid and getting rid of it will fix major social ills? Or perhaps that decent people don't patronize sex stores? *Cough* So why are protesters in Indiana flipping out in front of their local Lion's Den over an unrelated sex crime that happened before the store even opened?

Heck if I know! People get very excited about their causes and lack the sense to see if the information backs them up. These folks are upset, and rightfully so, about a sex crime against a female minor that occurred prior to the opening of the store. In response, they have organized to try to shut down the store by violating area laws (with no response from police or government) and attempting to ruin the lives of customers and employees. It seems that they believe this store, and its wares, somehow caused the crime.

Countless studies and professional accounts demonstrate that adult products, especially when tastefully done (but including the trashy stuff), can help couples to have more frequent and enjoyable sex. Both men and women are turned on by watching explicit videos, so it is NOT just a guy thing. While some porn producers have gone to the unpleasant side, others have invested in high quality films with a focus on women's pleasure and lots of sexy outfits and performers who apparently love their jobs!

Now, if you don't like porn, then don't buy it. I'm a vegetarian but I don't run around threatening people who go to McDonalds. Instead, I refuse to support the meat industry with my cash and try to increase attractive veg options for people to consider. And if you still want beef, well all the more for you... so enjoy. If you hate violent porn, then have a constructive conversation with your local vendors, offering alternatives and seeking solutions. Or, make your own erotica according to your tastes and offer it to the public! You could even donate the proceeds to your local sexual assault center. Those who commit such vile offenses have bigger problems than watching porn, and eliminating pornography is not going to solve those issues.

But I doubt the protesters in Indiana have bothered to read this far. As a woman, and as a volunteer at my local domestic violence shelter, I agree that the crime they have organized behind is terrible, tragic, and must be acted upon. I question, however, the value of their actions regarding the prevention of future harm to minors. Perhaps there is a way for all sides to sit together and see how both can serve their community in ways that raise awareness and resources toward the protection of vulnerable girls. By threatening customers, government officials, police, and store employees, this caring but erring group has diverted attention away from valuable efforts that would provide sustainable and essential assistance in the areas they seek to address. Again, this store was not open when the crime occurred and I have read no reason to believe that they participated or encouraged this behavior in any way.
